Jerry Robert Wheeler, age 62, was born on June 7, 1963, in
Cass City, Michigan. He was released from this world on January 9, 2025.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Willerton "Willie" Wheeler, and his brother, James Wheeler.
He is survived by his siblings, Mary (Greg) Sweet, Paul (Bonnie) Wheeler, Dan (Jill) Wheeler, Emma (Mark) Navarro, and Richard (Diana) Wheeler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his uncle, Richard Trepkowski of Ubly.
Jerry's life was a testament to the care and love of his family and caregivers of many years. His impact on their life was just as great.
He attended Sanilac Intermediate School District as a child and Sanilac CMH as an adult, and he was blessed to receive compassionate care through Faith Corporation and the Sanilac County Medical Care Facility. With the support of those around him, Jerry lived a life full of laughter and joy while navigating his physical challenges. He always had a twinkle in his eyes and mischief behind his smile.
Jerry was honored as Michigan Special Olympics Athlete of the Year in 2000 and proudly graced the cover of a Kellogg's Frosted Flakes cereal box alongside Detroit Pistons star, Grant Hill. During the photo shoot he was much more impressed by Hill's stunningly beautiful assistant that he was by some professional basketball player. In honor of this wonderful accomplishment, the City of Sandusky made him the Grand Marshall of the Thumb Festival Parade. Jerry was also a member of the Freedom Riders of Michigan, a proud 4-H Equestrian Program. He also enjoyed music, dancing and bowling. Jerry was a member of the Community Mental Health Bowling League.
