JESSE "BILL" WILLIAM STARCHER, 87, of Spencer, West Virginia, went home on June 4, 2025 at the Roane General Hospital in Spencer.
He was born April 1, 1938 in Spencer to the late Elzie Morgan and Gladys Starcher. He was retired from the Spencer State Hospital after 32 years of service. He served and retired from the United States Army National Guard from 1954-1977 where he received the Cold War Victory Commemorative Service Medal, Meritorius Unit Citation Commemorative Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation Commemorative Medal. He was a member of the American Legion and after his retirement from the State Hospital worked at the Roane County Court House. He was the life of the party, he enjoyed his sports, and was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Jesse is survived by his children, Alan (Kim), Kevin (Irene), and Debbie Starcher, all of Spencer; his sister, Helen Deel of Spencer; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his children, John (Molly) Caldwell, Mike Starcher, and Jesse "Moe" Starcher; his grandchildren, Christian Starcher, Aaron Starcher, and Tyler Starcher; sister, Elizabeth "Libby" (John) Ashby; brother-in-law, Donald Deel; first wife, Ocie Caldwell Starcher Hunt; second wife, Emma Lou Starcher; and son-in-law, Dave Starcher.
Service will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Charles B. White officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencer Memorial Cemetery. Visiting will be two hours prior to the service.
