It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Jesus Carlos "Charlie" Gomez. He passed peacefully on July 11, 2025 in San Antonio due to complications, after battling many years of kidney failure. He was born in March 1966 in Uvalde, Texas as the third child of Ruben Richard Gomez Sr and Cecilia (Tapia) Gomez. He was welcomed by his older brother Ricky Jr. and his sister Felicia. After a few years he became an older brother to Ben, Jay, Danny, and David.

The adjective best describing Charlie was happiness. He was the class clown, the funny one, and the kind one in his family. As a child, he was loud and funny and grew to be a friendly teen and adult. Anyone who knew Charlie or worked with him could always count on his beautiful smile (dimples) and a joke. He had a way of always giving nicknames to people. He nicknamed a few kids in high school and called his niece Charlotte, "Charletta Brown". Above all Charlie loved his family. He was protective, giving, and loving. He was the first to make a joke and hug our mother when entering the room. In his life, he loved his parents and was a good son. Always honoring his parents. He was a great brother and uncle. Always keeping up with us and checking in to see if we were okay. He was kind to us siblings but could be a bit bossy and we often joked that he should have been named Armando…….since he was a "Mandito". Always asking someone to do something for him! We, of course, indulged him on whatever he asked for or needed. His generosity to friends and strangers alike was unsurpassed. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. Never a materialist kind of guy; but he did love his "hats" and his "never sleep alone" cologne. He was indeed a jokester! Always creating happiness in this path. He had a love of pets, leaving behind his beloved Mia and enjoyed singing and listening to music his entire life. His favorite hobby was playing billiards. He played in many leagues in his lifetime and enjoyed the camaraderie of playing for fun or in serious tournaments. He began playing pool at a young age with our father and older brother, becoming quite the champion. Playing pool at home was one of his favorite past times and he also became quite the artist, taking up painting in his older years. Charlie's favorite color was purple.

Charlie was a man of faith. He believed in God and all that God gives us. He received all the sacraments, except for marriage and the Holy Orders. Due to his illness, he received the anointing of the sick at least three times. We hope he had a VIP ride into Heaven to join our father Richard Sr., brother Ric Jr., and nephew Ruben. We are comforted knowing he was welcomed by those who preceded him in death.

As an adult, Charlie worked in sales and had a huge customer following. Many often waiting in line, just so he could check them out. He was respectful to all, especially elderly customers. In his life he made friends everywhere he went and kept in touch with them, even when he became quite ill. Though Charlie's time with us was cut short, the impact he made will last forever. We are grateful for the time we had with our brother and his spirit will always guide us.

Charlie will be missed dearly by his family. He is survived by his Mother Cecilia, brothers Ben Gomez (Edna), Jay Gomez (Veronica), Daniel Gomez, David Gomez, and his sister Felicia Gomez Mendoza (Frank). By his favorite Aunt Marie E. Reyna and Uncle Artie Escobar. Along with numerous nephews, nieces and a multitude of cousins.

A reciting of the rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at St. Matthew Catholic Church starting at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of mass at 11:30am. He will be laid to rest by his family, at the family Gomez Cemetery. Friends are asked to join us for the rosary and mass.

The Gomez family thanks each of you for the outpouring of prayers and love during this very difficult time.
