Jesus Lujan Leon Guerrero was born on March 22, 1940, in Barrigada, Guam, to Jose Muñoz and Maria Lujan Leon Guerrero. A proud son of Guam, Jesus lived a life defined by courage, sacrifice, humility, and unwavering love for his family and country.
On December 22, 1967, he married the love of his life, Emilia Rosas Leon Guerrero, in Houston, Texas. Their enduring union, built on deep devotion and mutual strength, lasted more than five decades. Emilia preceded him in death, and their reunion is now complete.
Jesus proudly served in the United States Army for 26 years, earning the rank of First Sergeant. His last duty assignment was with Company C, 1st SR, 39th Infantry, AP 09034. His primary military occupational specialty was 11B5M Infantryman, and he also served as 75Z50 Personnel Sergeant. During his career, he was a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and completed a classified tour in Vietnam with the MACV-SOG program. He was a respected Drill Sergeant, and a proud member of both the 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions, participating in the historic combat jump into Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury. He concluded his decorated service as First Sergeant of an infantry company stationed in Germany.
He was a highly decorated soldier whose honors included the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3 awards), and the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.
Above all, Jesus was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his five children: Elizabeth Strauss (Rick), Benita Skidmore (Jeff), Jesse Leon Guerrero (Karen), Sonia Leon Guerrero (Joseph Davalos), and Lorraine Leon Guerrero Johnson (Tramann). He was a proud grandfather to Brett VanAntwerp (Tara), Jessica Robinson (James), Matt VanAntwerp (Leijla), Dereck Skidmore (McKenzie), Alex Davalos, Brittany Leon Guerrero, Hunter Davalos, Mya Johnson, Aidan Davalos, Charleigh Johnson, Taylor Haney (James), and Kylie Nessmith. He was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy and carried forward the strength of his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emilia; his parents; and his siblings † Isabel Leon Guerrero († Vicente Jesus), † Vicente Leon Guerrero († Edith), † Joseph Leon Guerrero († Mary Ann), † David Leon Guerrero, † Tommy Leon Guerrero (Patricia), and † Pacing Leon Guerrero. He is survived by his sisters Ruth Leon Guerrero (Joseph Pereda), Teresita Leon Guerrero († Antonio Jesus), Paulina Leon Guerrero († Samuel Chaparro) and Lena Leon Guerrero.
A soldier. A husband. A father. A grandfather. A great-grandfather. Jesus will be remembered as a quiet warrior, a devoted leader, and a humble man who served his family and country with unmatched dedication. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the values he passed on. He will be deeply missed and forever honored.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville.
