James F. Shelgren, age 87, of Rolfe, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
James Franklin Shelgren was born July 29, 1937 on the family farm near Gilmore City, Iowa. He was the son of Harold and Liliet (Hansen) Shelgren. Jim was raised on the family farm and graduated from the Rolfe High School in 1956. He continued his education at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Following college, Jim entered the U.S. Army where he served until his honorable discharge in September of 1963. On August 15, 1964, Jim was united in marriage to Helen Lowrey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple settled in the Rolfe and Gilmore City area where Jim farmed. Helen passed away in 2007, and Jim later moved into Rolfe.
Jim was a former member of the Presbyterian – Shared Ministry Church in Rolfe. He enjoyed farming, having done so until his passing. Jim was especially proud to fly on the Veteran Honor Flight several years ago.
Survivors include his son, Brad (Rhonda) Shelgren of Saint James, MN; Kara (Kurt) Weinert of Humboldt; grandchildren, Riley, Reid and Ryker Shelgren, and Kyle, Kaden and Kayla Weinert, and sisters, Jo Allen and Jane Shelgren-Diamond.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents, Harold and Liliet; sister, June Vaughn, and brothers, Robert, Glenn, Virgil and John Shelgren.
