Jimmy Birdsong (80) of Clayton, OK, was born on April 20, 1945 in Sanford Florida. He left this earthly body on Wednesday May 28th at 1:41 pm in the afternoon to be with Jesus. He died peacefully at home in his sleep. When he was still very young, his parents made the long wagon ride to the Kiamichi Mountains in Oklahoma. His mom was from southern Georgia and brought her deep knowledge of southern cooking along with her. From the time he was 6 years old, she would have him go to the woods to fetch something for supper. Squirrel and possum were a regular delicacy if the hunt could not produce a deer. He always talked about his time spent with his brother Bobby in the mountains when it came up.
He loved his family. He married Deborah King on August 4, 1989. They moved to Clayton in 1991, just 2 short years later, to be closer to Virgil and Susie. He never met a stranger, most people who got acquainted with him referred to him as Pops. If there was ever a man who knew how to live off the land it was Jim. He was willing to teach his children and anyone who was willing to be taught, various survival skills or mechanic skills. If it was broke, Jim could fix it. He loved old cars and loved talking about old cars, especially a 50 Mercury. He was an avid hunter who loved the woods. However, he was NOT a fisherman, although he would definitely eat fish if it was cooked right. Hunting was his passion and being in these woods always made him feel at home. Anytime he could and would, he would bring Debbie with him and would go to the woods. He was a great man and will be most definitely be missed, we Love you Pops.
He was preceded in death by: His mother, Susie Mae Birdsong, his father, Virgil O.
Birdsong, his brother Joseph Robert Birdsong, and his 2 sons Jimmy Birdsong and Travis Sullivan, and a Granddaughter Sakeenah Hamid.
He is survived by his wife Debbie Birdsong and her 2 boys Eric King and his wife Tanya and David King and his wife Courtney; his sister, Ruby Wiggins; his 2 sons: Todd Birdsong, and Eddie Sullivan; his daughters: Sharla Sullivan, Rhonda Michelle Duncan and husband Chris, and Leanne Birdsong. He had many grandchildren whom he adored, Todds girl, Kameron Birdsong, Eddie's daughter, Josie, Sharla's daughter, Jennifer Messner, and her sons John Messner and Jacob Willis,, Rhonda's daughters Ashlyn and Kylie Duncan, Leanne's son, Buraq Birdsong, Travis's daughters, Jamie Sullivan, Krystina Graham and Amber Love Joy, and Jimmy's sons, Kyle and Tyler Birdsong.
