Mr. Jimmy Lee Day, age 74, of Alamo, GA, passed away at his home on June 27, 2025, after an extended illness. Jimmy was born in McRae, GA, to the late James Alton Day and Velma Annette Seabolt Day on March 7, 1951. He was a graduate of Wheeler County High School. He was employed by Georgia State Corrections and later worked as a long-distance trucker for many years. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, socializing with his friends, telling tall tales that were guaranteed to bring a laugh, and especially driving his big truck. Jimmy loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by those who loved him. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, uncommon wit, and ability to make a moment memorable.
Jimmy is survived by his wife: Lynette Key Day; daughters: Crissy Smith (Kory) of McRae and Kandi Purvis (Charles Taylor) of Alamo; grandchildren: Daylan Purvis of Alamo, Maryee-Grace Selph of McRae, Kaylee Smith of Glenwood, and Konner Smith of Glenwood; uncle: Wendell "Coonshine" Seabolt (Alma); nieces and nephews: Simone Wynn, Brian Wynn Amy McDonald (Garrett), AmiJo Steiger, Vashti Christian, Bryan Hullett, BJ Herndon, and William Lowery; great nieces and nephews: Logan Wynn, Landon Wynn, Kinlee Raiford, and Kaylan "Piggy" McDonald; a very special cousin/friend Kerry "Red" Anderson (Lori) and several cousins and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Day Foskey.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Towns Funeral Home. Funeral services for Jimmy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Alamo Methodist Church, with interment to follow in the Alamo City Cemetery.

Ronald McCall

June 29, 2025

I spent many enjoyable late nights around a campfire behind the late Charles Balkcom's house on the Altamaha River Bank listening to the late Sam Hart, Pete Brown and Jimmy Day (the big Three) spin yarns that would have made the great Jerry Clower (the Mississippi Mouth) proud.
Jimmy's "the cat-squirrel that jumped the Hoopee River" and "the 82 year-old man that ran a triple marathon" would make a dead man sit up and laugh. When Jimmy leaned back in his chair, crossed his legs, and lit a cigarette, the truth was in mortal danger, and it was always funny.

God speed Jimmy. You had a tremendous ability to make us laugh.
