David Duhon Obituary

David Lee Duhon, age 74, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in New Orleans and raised in Amelia, Louisiana, David was the son of Gloria and Loylis “T-Shoo” Duhon. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Throughout his life, David held many occupations and retired from Textron Marine & Land Systems in 2017. Known for his sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye, he kept his wit and charm even in his final days, bringing smiles to those around him. A true Cajun at heart, David loved Cajun food—especially a good bowl of gumbo. He found joy in helping others, tinkering with his antique car, camping, and traveling. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and friends.

David is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Bordelon Duhon; daughter, Renee Duhon Landry (Martin); daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hebert Duhon; and stepson, Kevin Avery. He was the proud grandfather of Kaitlyn Duhon Oubre, Addison Duhon, Brooke and Jenna Jernigan, Gabbie, Tori, Elizabeth, and KJ Avery, and great-grandfather to Aurora, Ryder, and Phoenix Oubre, who will forever cherish his memory. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Gagliano (Anthony) and Cheryl Rock, along with many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kevin and Gary Duhon; son, David Duhon II; stepdaughter, Jessica Jernigan; and granddaughter, Abagail Jernigan.

David will be laid to rest at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, in Slidell, on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11:00am.

The family would like you to join us for David’s Celebration of Life after the funeral, located at the American Legion Post 185, 1680 St. Ann Place, Slidell, LA  70460".

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff and chaplains in the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at Ochsner Main Campus for the compassion and respect shown to David during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MD Anderson or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in David’s memory.

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, laughter, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.

In memory of David Duhon, contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston TX 77210-4486 or MDAnderson.org/Gifts.
