Joan Ives Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Family Choice Funerals & Cremations on Apr. 11, 2025.
Joan Gale Ives, born on October 18, 1949, in the coastal city of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 75. A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, Joan's life was deeply intertwined with the community she cherished and the people she loved.
Growing up in Virginia Beach, Joan attended Virginia Beach High School and was among the first classes to attend First Colonial High School when it opened its doors. Her vibrant spirit and dedication to her work were evident throughout her long career in sales. She spent over two decades bringing warmth to customers at Michaels Craft Store, and in addition to that, she dedicated over 15 years to serving the community at Peoples Drug Store.
Joan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid beachgoer, where the sound of the ocean waves brought her peace. Her love for cats was well-known, and their companionship brought her comfort throughout her life. As the years went by, Joan became more of a homebody, cherishing the solace of her home and the company of her beloved soap operas, including "The Guiding Light," "The Young and The Restless," "The Bold and The Beautiful," and "General Hospital."
A devoted mother, Joan instilled a strong work ethic in her sons, Mike and Jeremy, teaching them the value of dedication and perseverance. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her family, as she was a good friend to many, always ready with a listening ear and a kind word.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Penny Barnes, and her brothers, Dale and Larry Barnes. She is survived by her sons, Mike Ives and his wife Maria, and Jeremy Ives and his partner Lisa Austin. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Susan Barnes, and her longtime life partner of 24 years, Keith Jordan, whose companionship enriched her life immeasurably.
Joan Gale Ives will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering dedication to those she loved, and her ability to find beauty in everyday moments. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
