Joan Rose Zenia Ancil, 86, Indianapolis, passed away in her home at 12:31 pm on Friday, July 4, 2025. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, May 24, 1939, to Noah and Lilly (Walker) Collins. On April 28, 1956, she married Harry L. Ancil, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2007.
Joan attended Sweetser High School. She worked at Chantieleer Restaurant in Upland and Foster Forbes. In her younger years, Joan and her sister were the "strippin, hookin, window peepin, go-go girls" while they were smokin' and drinkin' their mixed drinks. If you know, you know. Ultimately, she was a homemaker who raised and took care of her family. She enjoyed sewing quilts, crocheting, puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Gay Harrell, Doug (Karen) Ancil, Colleen (Vince Miskovich) Leist, Brian Ancil, Christopher (Becky) Ancil; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Van Dine, Glenna Carter, Rosalie Eakins, and Ruth Thomason.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah Glenn and Lilly Collins; husband, Harry L. Ancil; brothers, John Collins, Jerry Collins, Larry Collins; sisters, Jacqueline Justis, Sarah Carter; daughter-in-law, CJ Ancil; and son-in-law, Phil Harrel.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Joan's life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Steven Coe officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Riley Children's Foundation 30 S. Meridian St., Ste. 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204-3509.
