Joanne M. Gilcris 1937-2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Rae Mack Gilcris, who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025 at her home in Proctorsville, VT, at the age of 88. Joanne was born on January 31, 1937 in Ludlow, VT, to her late parents Guy and Mary Mack. She was a big part of her community from a very early age working at Singleton's store, volunteering for the Cavendish Ambulance, driving the Town school bus and then a founder of Gilcris Enterprises Incorporated with her husband Richard in 1962.
As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Joanne's life exemplified her unwavering and endless kindness and above all, the sincerest love for her family. She cherished every day and her role as a wife to her late husband, Richard. Their 58 years of marriage were filled with shared adventures and quiet moments of companionship. Together, they raised two children, Peggy and Wayne who will forever remember her as one of the greatest gifts in their lives that made them every bit of who they are today.
Joanne's passion for giving and helping the lives of all around her better was one of her most sincere and endearing qualities. She loved nothing more than having her family together, especially for all of the holidays and all of the special moments in their lives. She would always tell the story of how proud she was to show off her family when we went to Greeley Park to gather with her brother and sisters. Another of her greatest passions was spending summer weekends searching for the best items in every one of the Yard Sales. It was almost an art and a puzzle for her with her secretive strategy of getting there early enough before all of the best deals were gone, which she enjoyed to her last day.
Joanne is survived by her children, Peggy and Wayne (and his wife, Tracy); her grandchildren, Eric, Jeremy and Samantha; her great grandchildren Bryce & Erica; her sisters Jean, Joyce, Mary Jane and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends and she is now undoubtedly back in the loving arms of her husband, Richard.
A memorial service will be held on July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the St James United Method Church in Proctorsville, VT. The Ceremony will begin at 11:00am followed by a heartfelt burial in her final resting place next to her husband Richard. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Proctorsville Fire Hall directly following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Joanne's memory be made to the St James United Methodist Church to continue to support her loving family there as well.
You always knew where you stood with Joanne however, behind her occasional boldness was always a pure heart of gold. She was direct at times with just a slight touch of stubborn, but was always compassionate and sincere with all of her intentions in everything she did. Her kindness and generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the great privilege and honor of knowing her. Her legacy has left a mark on us all and she is a person who will never be forgotten and will always have that one more hug.
