Jody "Todd" Ballard, affectionately known by his friends as Todd, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on December 22, 1985, in Gaston County to Jerry Hall Ballard, Jr. and Mary Annette Gardner Ballard. He passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2025, at his residence, leaving behind treasured memories and a profound impact on those who knew him.
He was a proud 2005 graduate of East Gaston High School, where he laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Jody cherished the thrill of game day. He was a devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers and the NC Tarheels, often found enjoying the excitement of NFL football, college football, and college basketball, immersing himself in the camaraderie and spirit that sports foster.
One of the greatest joys of his life was music. He wasn't just a fan- he lived it, breathed it, and shared it with those he loved the most. Whether it was a local gig, a major concert, or a garage band, he could always be found in the crowd, surrounded by his network of close friends, letting the rhythm carry them all into unforgettable memories. Music was more than a passion for him; it was his way of connecting , expressing love, and lifting the spirits of those around him. Through every beat, every lyric, and every shared moment, he built a bond of friendship that was as enduring as it was joyful.
Most of all, Jody was proud of his constant companion who shared his heart and home- his beloved English Cocker Spaniel, Annie. Their bond was unbreakable. Annie wasn't just a pet; she was his shadow, his comfort, and his most loyal friend. Whether they were talking in their own language together or simply just relaxing at home, she was always by his side. Their connection was one of quiet understanding and unconditional love, a reflection of gentle, devoted soul he was. Annie bought out the softness in him that those closest to him cherished deeply.
In addition to his professional life and interests, Jody shared a special bond with his father, engaging in their favorite pastime of fishing together. These moments were among the many highlights of his life, reflecting the warmth of family ties and creating lasting memories.
Jody is survived by his loving parents, Jerry Ballard Jr. and Mary Annette Ballard; his brother, Richard "Buddy" Gardner; as well as his nephew, Christian Gardner and wife Sierra, and his niece, Jenna Gardner. Each of them will carry forward his legacy, forever cherishing the joy and laughter he brought into their lives.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jody's life during the visitation on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Both services will be held at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. Burial will immediately follow the service at Stanley City Cemetery.
As we reflect on Jody's life, we remember a person who was more than just a sports fan or a skilled electrician; he was a caring individual whose spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved. His legacy of kindness, passion for life, and dedication to family will always shine brightly.
