Joseph James Hayes, known affectionately as Joe, was born on December 8, 1978, in Corydon, Iowa. A devoted resident of Creston, Iowa, Joe passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2025, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Joe’s early life was spent in Chariton, Iowa, where he was raised and educated. He was a member of the Chariton High School Class of 1998, and during his high school years, he showcased his sporting spirit by participating in football. This sense of teamwork and dedication carried him through life.

For the last 23 years, Joe was a valued employee at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, working in the Environmental Services Department. His dedication to his work exemplified Joe's strong work ethic and willingness to support those around him.

A wonderful father and a big family man, Joe was a kind soul who left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He possessed a great sense of humor that made him a joy to be around. His love for sports was evident as he ardently supported his teams, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes—Go Hawks!

In addition to his love for sports, Joe took immense pride in his home. He enjoyed being outdoors, meticulously caring for his lawn, and tending to his flowerbeds. He was known for his attention to detail, ensuring that his home was always neat and well-manicured.

Joe was united in marriage to Amber Ann Young on August 10, 2001, at the home of her grandparents in Beaconsfield, Iowa. This union brought him immense pride and joy as he held his family in the highest regard, finding fulfillment in their shared moments.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Amber Hayes; his daughter, Brianna Hayes; and twin children, Kennedy and Nick Hayes, all of Creston, Iowa. Joe also leaves behind two brothers, Jason Hayes of Chariton, Iowa, and Buck Hayes of St. Joseph, Missouri; a sister, Carrie (Ryan) Lankford of Norwalk, Iowa; and his father, Ron Hayes of Laurel, Iowa. He is additionally mourned by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Denzel and Vickie Young of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, along with three nephews, several cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Karolyn Hayes, and his grandparents, Betty and Edward Hayes.

Joseph James Hayes will be remembered fondly for his warmth, humor, and unyielding devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew him.
