John H. Adams, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Ann B. (Kenyon) Adams, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2018.
Born in Ft. Fairfield, Maine, John was the son of the late Vanamie and Beatrice (Symes) Adams. He proudly served his country in the United States military for two decades, beginning in the Navy and continuing with a distinguished career in the United States Air Force, where he later retired. His time in the Air Force defined much of his professional life and exemplified his dedication to duty and service. Following his military service, John continued his hardworking nature as a field engineer with Federal Products.
A man of deep faith, strong family values, and steadfast fraternity, John found fulfillment through service and community. He was a longtime member of Wakefield Baptist Church and deeply involved in Masonic and Shriner organizations. He was a a 50-year member of the Freemasons, and Past Master of Hope Lodge #25 F. & A.M. and Past Potentate and proud member of the Motor corps Unit for the RI
Shriners Hospital. Additionally, he served on the board of the
Shriners Children's Hospital in Springfield, MA, where his compassionate spirit left a lasting impact.
John is survived by his children: Patricia L. Fishlock (Bruce) of Texas, Cynthia J. McLellan (Joseph) of Rhode Island, Scott E. Adams (Peggy) of Rhode Island, and Jennifer A. Adams (Christopher) of Nevada. He was a beloved grandfather to Bradford, Casey, Kelli, Rachael, Mackenzie, and Vaughn, and a cherished great-grandfather to Ethan, Chloe, Wyatt, Oliver and Caleb.
He also leaves behind his sisters: Bertha Tanner of Coventry, RI, and Virginia Williams (Richard) of South Carolina, and was predeceased by his sister, Betty Adams and brother-in-law Byron Tanner.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue,
West Warwick, RI, with a Masonic Service to follow. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Wakefield Baptist Church in South Kingstown. Burial with military honors will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
