John Monroe "Pete" Gentry, 84, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Born September 3, 1940 in Person County to the late Roscoe and Inez Robertson Gentry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Bedford "Cotton Eye" Gentry, sister, Cathy Gentry Banks and half-brother, Wayne Gentry. Pete graduated from Bethel Hill High School, served in the US Army and worked for Carolina Power and Light Company for many years of his working career. He was of the Baptist faith. Pete loved his family, playing golf, fishing, motorcycle riding, mowing the yard and riding his mule with his four legged companion, Dixie.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janet Guill Gentry; his daughter, Candice Gentry Yarbrough and husband Brad; his step-son, Todd Bullock and wife Andrea; his grandchildren, Jadynn Yarbrough and fiancé, Dawson Burtt, Julian Yarbrough and Journey Yarbrough; step-grandson, Justin Bullock; and half brother, Paith Gentry.
