With full hearts and grateful spirits, we celebrate the life of John Robert Hagan Jr., who passed away on July 11 at the age of 69. A man of quiet strength and vibrant spirit, sharp wit and unwavering loyalty, John was a steadfast presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Born at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, John was raised in a proud military family. His parents, John Hagan Sr. and Juanita DuFresne, instilled in him values that guided his life. He lived in many places growing up, including three years in Germany. After graduating from Burkburnett High School, John briefly attended The Citadel and Rice University before embarking on his professional journey.
John's passion for numbers and technology led him through a dynamic career path-including roles in the chemical industry, inventory management, Continental Airlines, and Southwestern Bell. He ultimately retired from AT&T after more than 20 years as a network architect, though his dedication brought him back to serve again. Known for his technological expertise and strong work relationships, John was admired by colleagues and clients alike.
John is survived by his loving wife, Terry John, who brought new light into his life. Together, they shared 10 years filled with laughter, travel, quiet companionship, and the of joy watching their family grow and celebrate life. He is also survived by his children-Michelle (Chris), Tim (Erin), Riley (Brian), Robert (Andrea), Kali, and Ian-and former daughter-in-law Allison. Known lovingly as Poppy, he treasured his grandchildren: Angelica, Bailey, Blake, Logan, Aubree, Brinley, Cohen, Cassidy, Stella, Colton, Brayden, and Memphis. He also leaves behind his sister Cindy Fox (Melvin), as well as many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Kathleen "Candi" Breezy Hagan, with whom he built a beautiful life and raised four loving children, as well as his parents and brother James G Hagan.
A loyal OU Sooners fan and a Texans season ticket holder, John's passion for sports ran deep. He savored life's simple pleasures-a strong cup of coffee, a fine cigar, and a glass of wine shared among friends. He was a pillar of support in his children's lives, engaging in coaching, refereeing, theater, and every endeavor they embraced. A gifted cook and joyful host, John loved preparing meals for gatherings at home and tailgates alike. He was also a family historian, researching and documenting his ancestry for others to treasure.
Stubborn at times, but always steady, John lived life on his own terms. He was unapologetically loyal to what mattered--providing love, stability, and support. His solution to any challenge was simple: "We will figure it out." And he did, with grace and integrity. His legacy lives not only in the stories he shared or the laughter he sparked, but in the lives he shaped by simply being himself.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-a cause close to John's heart. Grateful for the health of his children and grandchildren, he was deeply committed to helping those in need.
This is not goodbye-this is see you later. John's story continues in every memory, every laugh, every family tradition. We know he is resting easy in Heaven with Jesus, and we will carry his love with us daily.
