WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of John O. Lewis Sr. age 80, announce his peaceful passing on Monday, February 24, 2025 in the comfort of his home.John was born on January 30, 1945, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of the late James and Jannie Lewis.

As a young man, he joined the Army, served in the Vietnam War where he received a purple heart and was honorably discharged. Soon after his military service, he enrolled in the Vocational Meat Cutter School in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon completion of the training, he went to work for First National SuperMarket. John skillfully honed his craft of butchery. Observing John cutting meat was like watching a prolific artist create a superbly designed masterpiece.

His last place of employment was with the State of Connecticut at Southbury Training School where he retired after more than twenty years. He worked as a Behavioral Health Technician assisting adults with special needs as a job coach. John was so committed to his work and family that it was not unusual for him to work back-to-back double shifts.John was an automotive hobbyist. He had a profound passion for his cars. As a child working alongside his father and grandfather at his father's business Jimmy's Garage, he developed a love for cars. He enjoyed high fashion cars, anything fancy, expensive or "top of the line". Most important of all he was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was kind hearted and loved nothing more than spending time with his loving family.

Left to cherish his memory, John leaves behind his four children: Monique Lewis(Curtis) of Waterbury, John Lewis Jr., Latonia Lewis and Daniel Lewis of Waterbury; his grandchildren: Malakai Duarte, Anthony Smith, Jamarion Lewis and Cameron Lewis; his siblings: Deborah Lewis Thornton(Bruce), Robert "Bobby" Moore of New Jersey, Carol Curry of Bristol, Connecticut. He is predeceased by his siblings: Juanita Petteway and Richard Moore. John leaves behind a special cousin, Carol Shells, many nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

All services for Mr. Lewis will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort or to share a special memory.
