John Mendenhall Obituary

RICHMOND, Ind. - John Robert Mendenhall, at the age of 66, died Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 5:10 p.m. at Ascension St. Vincent - Randolph. Born January 16, 1958, in Richmond, Indiana, to Robert and Lillian Mendenhall. John was a life-long resident of Richmond serving generations of Wayne County residents at Mendenhall Hardware, where he worked for 48 years. Everyone is special in their own way; John was no exception. He had a strong presence, all his own. He never had any enemies because everyone who met John gravitated towards his positive energy. He was instantly liked, never meeting a stranger, and always making you feel special. His smile, demeanor and personality were a combination unmatched by most. Survivors include his mother, Lillian Mendenhall; children, Katie and Kyle Mendenhall; granddaughter Cora J; brothers, Jim (Cindy) Mendenhall and Ray Mendenhall; sisters, Jody (Perry) Wise and Jane Sowers; nieces, nephews; and many special friends.He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Jana Mendenhall; father, Robert Mendenhall; infant son and daughter; sister, Terri; and brother, Jeff. Visitation for John Robert Mendenhall will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2024, at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.
