John Robert (Bobby) Pinson, III, 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in Baconton, Georgia, in his grandfather's home-now his daughter's-which stands next door to the house where he was born on December 19, 1933.
Mr. Pinson was educated at Baconton Elementary School, Mitchell County High School, and Emory University. While at Emory, he served as President of the Business School Student Council, the Chi Phi Fraternity, and Alpha Kappa Psi, the business fraternity.
Following his service as an aircraft director in the U.S. Air Force, he worked for the Camilla Cotton Oil Company and the Federal Land Bank Association of Camilla before establishing himself as a real estate broker and appraiser with Pinson and Associates, Inc.
Throughout his life, Mr. Pinson was deeply involved in his faith community. He was at various times a member of Baconton United Methodist Church and Baconton Baptist Church, and later a founding member of Vision Covenant Fellowship. He served faithfully as a Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School superintendent, and teacher. A former member of Gideons International, he was passionate about lay-speaking and joyfully shared Bibles and his faith with those he met. Even after becoming disabled, he continued ministering to youth at Vision Covenant Fellowship on Wednesday evenings. Mr. Pinson chronicled his life's spiritual journey and healing ministry in a 2006 self-published work, Triangles of Love: Adventures in Faith and Prayer.
Civically engaged and community-minded, Mr. Pinson was a member of the Camilla Lions Club and a charter member of the Baconton Lions Club. During his sons' childhood, he served as an assistant coach for the Putney Little League. He held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations, including serving as President of both the Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and the Southwest Georgia Board of Realtors. He also served his hometown as both Mayor and Councilman of Baconton. Education was a lifelong passion: he was the founding Board Chairman of Ravenwood Academy and, years later, he and his wife Pat were instrumental in founding Baconton Community Charter School.
He experienced great joy in supporting his children and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits. He enjoyed contributing sports articles to the Camilla Enterprise and served as bookkeeper for the Baconton Blazers baseball team while his grandsons played.
Mr. Pinson was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia Hydrick Pinson; his parents, John R. Pinson Jr. and Patti Jackson Pinson Hays; his brother-in-law H.B. Williams of Laurinburg, NC; his in-laws, Frances and Larry Prince of Tifton; and his daughter-in-law, Nancy Smith Pinson.
He is survived by his four children and three of their spouses: Tim Pinson (Lynn), Mary Sullivan (Jamie), and Tom Pinson, all of Baconton, and John Pinson (Becky) of Duffie. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Laura Pinson Sinyard (Stuart) of Albany; Tyler Pinson (Karen) of Nashville, TN; Raina Clay Newman (Stephen) of Greenville, SC; Brooks Pinson of Duffie; Sara Sullivan McCorkle (E.J.), William Sullivan, Brock Pinson, Stone Pinson, and Smith Pinson, all of Baconton; and twelve great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sister, Patricia Pinson Williams of Laurinburg, NC; his brother-in-law, Dr. Dick Hydrick (Phyllis) of Baconton; four nephews; and three nieces.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Enon Cemetery on Stagecoach Road in Baconton at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 11, 2025.
