John Edward Robinson, 76, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on September 2, 1948, in Manchester, the son of Vernon and Evelyn (Sherman) Robinson. John was raised in the Greeley area, attending school through 8th grade in Greeley and graduating from Manchester High School. After graduating, John went to Kirkwood for auto mechanics.
On April 18, 1970, John was united in marriage to Mary Lou Steger at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester after meeting at a dance in Prairieburg. Six children were born to this union. John worked as an auto mechanic for several years and then farmed with his dad and brother. His final occupation was in road construction driving a dump truck. John was a member of the Greeley Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders for 35 years. He was proud to have been a member of the original Greeley Rope Pull Team.
John enjoyed Sunday dinner with family, watching the Hawkeyes, playing golf, and grilling everything from ribs to roasts. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Robinson of Greeley; six children, Mary Jo (Matt) Koohy of Winthrop, Brian (Gretchen) Robinson of Mount Vernon, Scott (Jes) Robinson of Manchester, Jennifer (Chad) Gaulke of Manchester, Andrew Robinson of Manchester, and Dan (Alison) Robinson of Hiawatha; nine grandchildren, Alex (Elizabeth) Hettinger, Dustan Koohy, Mitchell Koohy, Leah Koohy, Avery Gaulke, Colby Gaulke, Gabriel (Kate) Gildner, Joanna Demkiewicz, and Gracie Robinson; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Landon, Brooke, Oakley, Charlotte, Mack, and Weston; father-in-law, Harold Steger of Elkport; sister-in-law, Sue Robinson of Greeley; Mary Lou's brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Steger, his brother, Charles Robinson; his sister, Mary Alice in infancy; and brothers-in-law, Steve Steger and Al Bestler.
