Place of Birth: Chicago

John J. Sabuco, 67, of North Salt Lake, UT, passed after a long illness on January 4, 2025.

John had a full and interesting life but was most grateful for his family and friends and the relationships he shared. His loving and giving nature was proven by an extensive number of those people that have been touched by his generosity both of time and resources.

John’s love of science led him to obtain both a PhD in Mathematics and Ecology from the University of Pisa which helped him with his extensive research in Theoretical Ecology. He was the Chairman and Chief Science Officer of Synergya Pure & Applied Science Ltd., a scientific think tank and a source for discrete scientific and technical problem solving. His chosen area of research was ecological community assembly and mathematical modeling of stochastic and interactive forces driving succession. A sample of his accomplishments are writing five textbooks, 68 peer-reviewed articles and 92 juried presentations as well as creating five new statistical methods in the field of allometry, and non-parametric indexing. He took great pride in his contribution to the scientific community which stemmed from his abundant love of nature and the process of discovery.

He was the beloved husband of Janet Ann Sabuco, nee Hopman-Namini; devoted father of Bryan (Tracey) Sabuco, Robin Layla Namini, Carl Komrun (Haley Brashears) Namini and Kurt Kayvon Namini; loving grandfather of Savannah Lynne Sabuco; dearest son of the late Leroy Marco and Marie Dominica (Faraone) Sabuco; loving brother of Roy (Kathleen) Sabuco, Carol (James-deceased) Milburn, Paul Sabuco (deceased) and brother-in-law of Paul (Pamela) Hopman, Marty (Laurie) Hopman, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Hopman, George (Cindi) Hopman, Stephen Hopman, Kenneth (Marilynn) Hopman, Sophia (David Cox) Kadre, (John deceased) Janet Hopman, Mark Hopman, Phillip (Nicole) Hopman, (Daniel E. deceased) Veronia Hopman.
