John "Jake" David Spencer passed away early in the morning, July 27, 2025, at Upstate Hospital with his son Chris by his side.

Jake is survived by his sons, Christopher (Michelle) Spencer, Cicero and Zachary (Helena) Sheridan, Baldwinsville, and his daughter Gabrielle Spencer, Syracuse. He is pre-deceased by his mother, Ann Hogan, formerly of Elbridge.

Born in Syracuse NY on December 30, 1949, Jake served his country by enlisting in the Navy. He was discharged with honors in 1970. Jake worked at Conrail as an electrical engineer, and retired with US Railroad Retirement benefits.

Jake's favorite things included his guitars, cooking, hiking, fishing, being outdoors, and enjoying life to the fullest. He would always rather be deep in the woods, than in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Jake's favorite saying …

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" - Hunter S. Thompson

Memorial donations in Jake's memory can be made to Update Cancer Center:
