John Michael Taylor was born on November 20,1960 to James F. and Charlotte Taylor in Harlingen, Texas. John passed away in Austin, Texas on June 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
John is survived by his mother Charlotte Taylor Key, brother Donald Taylor and wife Sharon Smith Taylor, nephew Travis Taylor and wife Lisa Taylor, and nephew Marshall Taylor and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Taylor.
John grew up in Richmond-Rosenberg, Texas and Austin, Texas. After graduating from Pflugerville High School in 1979 he served in the Air Force and later joined the Air Force Reserves where he made many lifelong friends. He spent 14 years in the irrigation business, then graduated from ITT Technical School which launched his 25 year career as an Associate Engineer at Silicon Labs.
John also had a lifelong passion for law, history, and politics. He could accurately recite nearly all the writings from the founding fathers and give you an exacting history of how US law evolved from Greek, Roman, and British Common law.
John was a skilled craftsman who could design and build anything to perfection (obsessive). John built things to last and many still stand strong serving as a testament to his skill and ingenuity.
There are many highlights and major accomplishments in John's life. Here are some of the most notable moments:
1. An avid archer in his youth, John was awarded by his local club for his work on maintaining the range and he was very successful at competitive archery.
2. Promoted Seargent in the Air Force.
3. Graduated with highest honors from ITT Technical School and inducted into the National Honor Society.
4. Helped design and build proprietary testers used for integrated chips. John was an expert with mechanical solutions and PCB design of tester interfaces for engineers and automated equipment. John also worked with many colleagues to share knowledge and ideas over his long career.
5. Recently joined a select group of 25-year Silicon Labs veterans to ring the closing bell for the NASDAQ stock exchange.
John was a gentle, warm hearted, gracious, loving, and compassionate son, brother, and friend to many. He was passionate about helping people in need. He was a mentor and guide to anyone who asked for help.
John will be missed by many.
