Dr. John Henry Walker, 87, of Anderson, passed away Monday March 3, 2025, after battling Parkinson's disease for over 5 years.
Born August 24, 1937, in Harrison, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Albert Monroe and Ruby Clementine Klepper Walker. Dr. Walker was a professor at Clemson University. He earned two doctorates, a PhD from the University of Texas-Austin and EdD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. John was very active in volunteer work. He traveled to Bucharest, Romania several times to work with the Ruth School, which serves the Romany People. He also built houses, and did construction work for several non-profits. John was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church for over 51 years.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Brena Bain Walker of the home; daughters: Andra Looper (Keith) of West Pelzer and Melanie Ferguson (Kenny) of Chattanooga; grandchildren: William Justin Looper (Lily Franklin Looper), John Marshall Looper (Haleigh Layne Looper), John Maxwell "Max" Ferguson (Eleanor Prescott), and Ruby Lane Ferguson; great grandchild, William Ridge Looper; and siblings: James Albert Walker and Harvey Dale Walker.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Walker was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Walker.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 8 at Boulevard Baptist Church with Dr. Austin Carty, and Dr. Johnny McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Ruth School and the Ruth Project, c/o Boulevard Baptist Church, 700 N. Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
