It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnnie James Frederick, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Born on December 16, 1951, in Gueydan, Louisiana, Johnnie peacefully departed this life on July 3, 2025, at the age of 73.
Johnnie was a dedicated commercial fisherman and proudly owned Frederick's Commercial Seafood for many years. He found his true joy on the open water, navigating the waves aboard his cherished boat, the Miss Elaine Jeannie. His passion for fishing was matched only by his deep love for his family. Beyond fishing, Johnnie had a knack for woodworking and loved to unwind by watching his favorite cowboy shows. He was a man of faith, cherishing his church family as a member of Lake Arthur First United Methodist Church and actively participating in the community.
Johnnie proudly served in the United States Army, a testament to his unwavering dedication and sense of duty. His quick smile, compassionate spirit, and unwavering support for his loved ones will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. In this time of sorrow, we invite all who knew and loved Johnnie to join us in honoring his memory and the impact he had on our lives. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Left to carry his legacy are his beloved wife, Alice "Jeannie" Frederick; daughter, Jeanie Lewis; step daughters, Jessica (Carl) Green and Allison Cryer (Sheila Smith); and a proud "pawpaw" to his grandchildren: Hunter Lewis, Skyler (Jamie) Lewis, Arianna Green, and Hattie Green. He also leaves behind his sister, Diane (Leo) Frederick; brother, Michael Frederick; niece, Lilah Smith; and great nephew, Gabe; all of whom will miss him dearly.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur, LA, on Tuesday July 8, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, which will the time of service. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM, in the funeral home chapel, celebrating the life and legacy of this remarkable man. Reverand Craig Davis will be officiating the service.
He will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Arthur, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Mae and James Frederick; and his first wife, Elaine Miller Frederick.
