Joni was born on September 28, 1958 in Huntsville, AL, the daughter of Barbara and Joe Phillips. Barbara and Joe were the owners and proprietors of Archie's Skateland, the first skating rink in Guntersville, AL. Joni was an avid roller skater in her youth and regularly participated in artistic skating competitions such as dance and figure skating. Joni graduated from Guntersville High School in 1976 and obtained an Associate's Degree from Snead State Community College the following year. In the 1990's, Joni was a nationally recognized skating coach and regular member of USARS Artistic Skating Coaches Association. Joni worked for the State of Alabama Circuit Clerk's Office for 23 years and retired at the age of 65.
Joni is survived by her sister Lori Nettles, niece Jamie East, nephews Greg and Joey Nettles, and her son Josh Cameron. Joni requested that no service be held and, in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in her name to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Boaz, AL.
