Jose Antonio Alvarez
November 21, 1952 - July 24, 2025
Joe Alvarez, born in San Antonio, Texas, to Lorenzo Mendez Alvarez and Elvira Molina, passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 72. Joe's family relocated to Dallas in the early 1960s, where he would later meet the love of his life.
At the age of 15, while attending Adamson High School in Oak Cliff, Joe's path crossed with JoLynn's. A dedicated member of the Chess Club, Joe was appointed to teach a new member - JoLynn. What started as a friendship quickly blossomed into a romance, and they became inseparable. The couple "went steady" through high school, and in 1972, they married at Danieldale Baptist Church, where Joe would later serve as a deacon. Together, they celebrated 53 wonderful years of marriage this past February.
Joe and JoLynn were blessed with three daughters: Jennifer, born in 1976; Jamie in 1980; and Sarah in 1982. Joe was a devoted father, always there for his daughters whether it was through coaching their softball teams, cheering them on at games, or spending time outdoors fishing, especially at Padre Island. Joe was also an avid traveler, with Hawaii being a special destination close to his heart.
Joe's professional career spanned many years and transformations. He initially worked in mainframe computer repair after training in Minneapolis, and later transitioned into sales, specializing in buying and selling computer parts. In the latter part of his career, Joe worked as a credit manager at AAFES until his retirement in 2014.
Joe was a man of deep faith and spirituality, spending time each day reading his Bible and in prayer. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was known for his kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
A loving grandfather, Joe found great joy in his two granddaughters, Kayla and Kira, and cherished every moment spent with them. He also enjoyed many happy years as a member of the church softball team, and later as a coach for his daughters' teams.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo Alvarez; his mother, Elvira Molina; his nephew, Jonathan Tristan; and his brothers-in-law, Ponciano Garcia and Joel Morales.
He is survived by his beloved wife, JoLynn; daughters Jennifer Milgrom (Louie), Jamie Chavez (Hendrick), and Sarah Clawson; granddaughters Kayla Vanvleet and Kira Clawson; his brother, Larry Alvarez (Silvia); and sisters Lupe Morales, Rose Ramsdell (Jeffrey), Sylvia Garcia (Santos), Diana Houston (Bryan), Gloria Martinez (Fred), Irma Bordine (Matthew), and Sofie Jiminez. Joe is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he held dear.
Joe's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
Visitation will be from 12-2pm. on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025 at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury with graveside services following at 2:30pm. Tuesday at the Acton Cemetery in Granbury.
