Jose Velo, longtime resident of Dimmitt Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the age of 71.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 10:00AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. David Contreras as celebrant and Deacon John Nino assisting. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Rosary will begin on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Colonial Funeral Home at 6:00PM with vigil service to follow.
Jose Velo was born on December 19, 1953, in San Franciso de Conchos, Mexico to his parents Tomas Velo and Juliana (Bravo) Velo. Jose married Ninfa (Quintero) Velo on August 13, 1978. Jose worked as a farmer in Castro County for many years working with the Boozer family, Bagwell family and the Bruegel family. He was a member and past deacon of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dimmitt.
In his personal time, Jose enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, singing, and collecting aluminum cans. He was the maintenance man of his home, always looking to fix things that needed to be repaired.
Jose is survived by his wife, Ninfa Velo of Dimmitt, Texas, 2 daughters, Elizabeth Martinez and husband Enrique of Dimmitt, Texas and Isela Velo of Dimmitt, Texas, 1 son, Julian Velo and wife Angelina of Amarillo, Texas, 9 grandchildren, Jorge Martinez, Barbara Velo, Liset Martinez, Elian Velo, Evanni Velo, Innocencia Velo, Izvel Velo, Ja'Vian Velo, and Lucio Velo, sister, Emilia Lozano Velo of Mexico, 4 brothers, Teodosio Velo, Cirilo Velo, Alejo Velo, and Juan Velo all of Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his parents along with 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
