Joseph Matthew Galan, known as Joseph to all who loved him, not Joe (as he liked to remind everyone who tried to call him that), went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 5, 2025, at the age of 38. Born on a December morning in 1986, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, TX, Joseph's life was a testament to joy, laughter, and the unwavering spirit of adventure. He passed away at home in the heart of the hill country after a heroic, 3+ year battle with Urothelial Carcinoma.
A man of faith and fervor, Joseph's Christian beliefs were the compass by which he navigated life's highs and lows. Over the last year he often repeated the phrase, "Into Your hand I commit my spirit", especially in moments when fear of cancer/hardship crept up. Joseph's approach to life was, always moving, always striving, always with a joke or two to crack. Joseph's dream was to be a family man and although he never had children of his own, he cultivated a family like bond with every group of friends he encountered, whether it be his Young Life Team, the kids he mentored, his best guy friends, or the bartender on the other side of the bar. He knew no stranger.
Joseph's legacy is cherished by a loving circle of family, including his wife, Baileigh Galan and his mother, Cynthia Galan, are left with a treasure trove of memories, filled with Joseph's infectious laughter and spirited antics. His grandmother, Divina Galan, aunt, Lori Galan-Garcia, and cousins, Brianna Garcia-Mota, Jonathan Garcia, Alex Mota, and little Michael Alexander Mota, will carry forward his memory with stories of his adventures and mischievousness. He now joins his grandfather, Joe Galan, and uncle, Robert Garcia, in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of joy and resilience.
Joseph earned his Bachelor of Communication with a minor in Psychology from A&M Corpus Christi, this made him a master salesman across multiple industries, medical sales, craft beer, with car sales being the most recent endeavor. After witnessing his grandpa undergo heart surgery, he began to pursue his nursing degree in 2020 and continued that pursuit in the midst of cancer treatment, proving his tenacity to not let anything stop the force he was. His education was more than just academic pursuit; it was a playground for his quick wit and social charm. In the classroom, workplace, gym, or small group setting Joseph was known for his ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke, making even the dullest lecture a place of warmth and laughter.
Joseph's interests were as spirited and diverse as the man himself. An avid hunter, he could often be found in the company of his beloved bird dogs, Brodie and Chap, with whom he shared many a sunrise in the great Texas outdoors. His passion for CrossFit was matched only by his dedication to the community, where he was both a fierce competitor and a comical motivator for over a decade. Fast cars and good music were the rhythm to his days, and he was a self-proclaimed "mosh pit professional," always ready to dive into the crowd with a grin.
Perhaps one of Joseph's most endearing (or if you ask his wife, expensive) quirks was his love for driving his Land Cruiser, a pastime that gave him countless opportunities to boast about his adventures on the open road. His stories, often embellished with his comedic flair, will be retold with laughter and fondness.
Joseph was a man who lived life to the fullest, who found humor in the everyday, and whose spirit was as adventurous as his escapades. He was the embodiment of the words spirited, funny, and adventurous. His absence will be felt deeply, but the echoes of his laughter will resonate forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
As we bid farewell to Joseph Matthew Galan, we remember a life lived with gusto, a soul that never dimmed, and a man who taught us all to find the humor in life's journey. His story does not end here; it continues in the laughter he left behind, in the adventures he inspired, and in the love that will never fade. Rest in peace, dear Joseph, until we meet again.
