Laura Porter Obituary
May 27, 1955 - May 20, 2025
Laura Porter of Columbus died Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at home surrounded by love after a 4 year battle with cancer.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 29 at Federated Church. Visitation is on Wednesday May 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the Church.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorials to Federated Church or The Columbus Library Foundation.
Laura Porter was born May 27, 1955 in Omaha, NE to Richard and Benita (Basset) Lambert. Laura graduated from UNO with a degree in Elementary Education in 1978 and from Wayne State College with a Master of Science Degree in Education in 2005. Laura married Rick Porter on August 6, 1977 in Omaha, after living in Northern Iowa for 11 years and having their two children Max and Alexa, they moved to Columbus in 1992. Laura taught 5th Grade at Field and Centennial Elementary until retiring in 2017.
Laura was a member of Federated Church and the Columbus Women's club. She enjoyed going on cruises with Rick and her family as well as Husker Football but her biggest joy was spending time with her Grandchildren.
Laura is survived by: Husband, Rick Porter; Son, Max (Ashli) Porter; Daughter, Alexa (Jared) Davis; Grandchildren, Ellie, Rory, Cara and Wren; Brother, Tim (Donna) Lambert; Sister in Law, Mary (Wes) Finkner, Cousins, Nephews and Nieces.
Laura is preceded in death by her Parents.
