Visitation will be Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk with a 6:00 p.m. Nebraska Nurses Honor Guard Presentation.
The Mass will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.
Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.
Joy passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Joy Kay Wieseler was born July 14, 1947, in San Diego, California to Jerald and Dorothy (Allerton) Gross. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1965, and soon after met the love of her life, Allan, while working at Charlie's Pizza House.
On April 20, 1968, Joy married Allan Wieseler in Yankton, South Dakota.
Joy and Allan made their first home in Crofton, Nebraska on the family farm. They later moved to Stanton, Nebraska, where Allan worked on a farm and Joy was a stay-at-home mom. Later they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, where Joy worked as a scrub tech at Sister's Hospital. The family moved to Pierce, Nebraska and Joy worked for Pierce Public Schools and volunteered with the fire department as an EMT.
She took great pride in raising her three children: Mark, David, and Jerrlie. Always caring and nurturing by nature, Joy translated that passion into pursuing a career as a nurse. She earned her nursing degree from Northeast Community College in Norfolk, in their first ADN Program in 1992. Joy then worked as a nurse at the Regional Center in Norfolk until she retired in 2009.
Joy was an avid bird watcher and loved butterflies, particularly monarchs. Joy and Allan loved spending time with their family boating on the river, playing games with their friends and enjoying their piece of heaven on earth at a cabin near Lynch, Nebraska. She was known as a creative and adventurous cook, especially any dish with pasta. She never saw a casserole recipe she wouldn't try. Joy enjoyed her time gardening, tending various plants, and going to lunch with her friends.
Joy is survived by her sons, Mark (Jill) Wieseler of Carroll and David Wieseler of Norfolk; eight grandchildren: Tyler, Robbie, Josh, Abby, Sarah, Grace, Kayla, and Lane; three great-grandchildren: Cooper, Mia, and Finnegan; brothers, Jerry (Betty) Gross of Randolph and LeRoy (Jennifer) Gross of Rapid City, SD; sister, Toni Armstrong of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan (2009); and daughter, Jerrlie (2018).
