Joyce Lurea (Farmer) Hodges passed away Thursday, June 17, 2025 in Lubbock. She was born March 27, 1931 in Williamson County, Texas. Joyce was a member of the first Baptist Church in Anton, Texas, a member of the 1950s Study Club and a member of the Oklahoma Flat Club. She married the love of her life JC (Jake) Hodges, April 9, 1950. They lived in Whitharral, Texas and then moved to Anton and raised three children. Joyce loved to dance and with JC being a member of the Elks lodge in Lubbock, they went once a month and danced to the Tiny Lynn band. They also enjoyed dancing to Bob Wills and the Texas playboys. Joyce loved being a homemaker. She loved cooking and was very good at it. She loved to can vegetables from the garden every summer. She also loved making strawberry freezer jelly each summer to give her kids every year for Christmas. She loved sewing… she made many clothes for her daughter and granddaughters. There was one other thing Joyce was very passionate about and that was Mary Kay make up! We are sure we will find a container from the first batch ever made when her house is cleaned out! The family feels certain that she bought at least two or three pink cars for her Mary Kay sales rep. Joyce absolutely loved her children, but when she received the title of Memaw, her children took a backseat. She loved baking cookies with them, and letting them help her make homemade meatballs, which was every grandchild's favorite. It didn't matter what the grandkids were participating in-in her eyes they were the very best at anything they did. She was definitely their biggest fan. On July 17th Memaw received the biggest promotion she will ever receive when she earned her angel wings and joined the love of her life in heaven. She was a blessing to our family and we are so thankful and grateful we got to call her Mom/Memaw. Joyce was proceeded in death by her father WK Farmer, her husband JC (Jake) Hodges and a great grandson Slater Chaparro. She is survived by her son Johnny Hodges of Anton, Texas, Carolyn Mens and husband, Gary of Durant, Oklahoma, and Greg Hodges and wife Barbara of Anton, Texas. Six grandchildren John Hodges of Spade, Texas, Bo Mens of Lubbock, Texas, Jill Hodges of Lubbock, Texas, Shayne, Hodges, and wife Becky of Anton, Texas Abby Lisama and husband, Dustin of Lubbock, Texas, Kayla Chaparro and husband Frank of Anton, Texas. 12 Great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday July 21, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Anton with Larry Bloskas officiating and Herb Roever assisting. Interment will follow in Anton Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
