Jr. Pate Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yancey Funeral Services - Burnsville on Nov. 4, 2025.
Jr. Pate, age 77, of the Windom Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Irene Johnson Pate. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Louie and Ricky Pate, and his sister, Betty Jean Boone.
Jr. was a devoted member of Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church for 47 years, where he faithfully served as a deacon for many of those years. His life was a true reflection of his strong Christian faith and dedication to serving others. A hardworking man by nature, Jr. spent much of his life farming, working in Christmas trees and boxwoods, and had a great commitment for providing for his family. He had a remarkable work ethic and took great pride in all he did.
Jr. loved being outdoors, especially deer hunting, and was often seen with his loyal sidekick, Rex, by his side. Above all, family meant everything to him. He cherished his time with his wife, children, and his grandchildren, and always held his loved ones close to his heart. He was also deeply devoted to his church family, finding joy and peace in worship and fellowship.
Carrying on his legacy are his loving wife of 54 years, Rebecca "Becky" Carroll Pate; two sons: John Pate (Lynn) and Joe Pate (Kayla); five grandchildren: Remington, Makenlie "Girl", Ellie "LE", Camden, and Brayden Pate; sister, Janet Sue McKeehan; several special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law including Bill, David and Stanley Carroll, who were always there for Jr. Several nieces and nephews survive him as well.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 8th, at Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 9th, at Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church. Pastor Marvin Hensley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dewey Pate Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Remington Pate, Brayden Pate, Camden Pate, Dale Laws, Rick McCourry, Larry Miller, and honorary pallbearer, Clarence Deyton.
Jr's life was one of service, faith and love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, Dr. Lee Rule and all his staff of Mission Community Surgical Specialists and Wound Care for the wonderful care given to Jr.
