Sterling -- Juanita E. Koehl, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She was surrounded by family. Mom's journey was a testimony of God's grace and love. Her life also showed us that she always trusted God completely. She was a wonderful example of being ready to meet her Lord & Savior.
Juanita was born on June 17, 1924, in Cropsey, Illinois, to the late William and Ida (Ault) Bachtold. She married Leroy J. on February 14, 1948, in Fairbury, Illinois. Leroy died on December 2, 2011. On mom's 100th birthday we had a big celebration where most of her family attended and she was the life of the party. On June 17th 2025, the family celebrated her 101st birthday on a much quieter scale but very special.
After marriage Leroy and Juanita lived and farmed near Strawn, Illinois. Later they moved to Forrest, Illinois where she worked at Forest Meats for 29 years. In 2012 she moved to Ohio to live with her daughters Deb and Diane and would spend some time in Michigan with her other daughter Dawn. Juanita gave her heart to Jesus in 1949. She was a member of the Forrest Apostolic Church and also attended the Smithville Apostolic Church.
She has resided at the Apostolic Christian Village for the past three years. She loved all the workers at the home where they took great care of her until the end. They all commented on mom's sweet smile. She lived out her later years with great anticipation with seeing her savior Jesus and hearing the words of "well done good and faithful servant." She is now rejoicing in the presence of her Savior.
Juanita was one who loved to read especially her bible where she would spend time studying it and just being with the bible. She enjoyed spending time with her family and having coffee with her friends.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald (Carol) Koehl of Nokomis, FL, and Warren (Sherry) Koehl of Valparaiso, IN; three daughters, Debra (Jeffrey) Gasser of Sterling, Diane (Max) Miller of Sterling, and Dawn (Bill) Kerr of Grand Rapids, MI; 12 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by, grandson, Taylor J. Gasser; and 8 brothers & 4 sisters.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Smithville Apostolic Christian Church, 8530 Fulton Rd., Sterling, from 9:00 am to 10:15 am.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, at Smithville Apostolic Christian Church, with the Ministers of the Church officiating. Burial will take place at the Rittman Apostolic Church Cemetery in Rittman.
