Obituary
Judith Marie (Judy) Hughes, 75, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Meadville, a daughter of Culmer W. and Beulah Hughes.

Judy was a 1963 graduate of Commodore Perry High School and a 1967 graduate of Edinboro University with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education and a minor in French.  She was first employed in food service at Conneaut Lake Park as well as in Baltimore, MD and Pontiac, MI.  Judy subsequently owned and operated Mama Bears Restaurant and Mama Bears Country Inn in Conneaut Lake for 34 years.  Following retirement from the restaurant, she worked as a personal care aide for Helpmates for 6 years.

An active member of the Conneaut Lake community, Judy was a founding member of the Conneaut Lake Area Business Association, co-founder of the Conneaut Lake Pumpkin Festival, and charter member and former board member of the Conneaut Lake Area Historical Society.  She was also actively involved with the Lakeland Museum where she helped raise funds for the raising and restoration of the Liberty the Second and strongly supported Conneaut Lake Park where she served as a volunteer member of the board of trustees.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Ellen Russell (Scott) of Greenville; two brothers, David C. Hughes of Sheakleyville and Stephen F. Hughes (Shirley) of Hadley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Linda Hughes.

Family and friends will be received Friday, July 9th from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, July 10th from 10-11 a.m. at WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Nancy Manning, friend, officiating.
