Stone Ridge - Judith M. Strong Sullivan, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025 with her family by her side at the Health Alliance Hospital. Born on July 8, 1935 in Kingston, New York, she was the daughter of the late William E. Strong and Myrtle May Wanderer Strong. She was a graduate of Kingston High School (Class of 1952) and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1956. She dedicated many years to serving children as a social worker in White Plains, New York. Judy and her parents moved to Stone Ridge in 1941, a town that always held a special place in her heart. After spending years away, she returned in 1976 with her family to the same home where she was raised and remained there until she passed. An avid skier, she loved to ski in Colorado and Vermont but always found joy in the slopes near home, including her local favorites, Highmount and Belleayre. The second of four generations of ski racers, she passed her love for the sport down to her children and granddaughters. A lifelong lover of music, she began playing the flute in her school years and continued to perform well into her late eighties. She was a devoted member of several regional ensembles, including the SUNY Ulster Community Band, Saugerties Community Concert Band, Rhinebeck Legion Band and The Flute Quartet at Christ the King Church bringing joy through her music to the countless audiences and the fellow musicians she played alongside. She also was an active
member of her church, Christ the King in Stone Ridge. She loved her family, enjoyed traveling the world, visiting Alaska, birdwatching, exploring new restaurants, and spending time by the New Hampshire and Maine seacoast, with a special love for lobster.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas P. Sullivan in 2012, they were married for 55 years. She is survived by her children, sons Brian Sullivan of Stone Ridge; William Sullivan and partner Fatima Caetano of Stone Ridge and Uberlandia, Brazil. Daughters, Mary Maurer and her husband Erik Maurer of Waterford, Vermont; Alice Sullivan of Talkeetna, Alaska; and granddaughters Charlotte, Keating, and Madigan Maurer. Sister-in-law Margaret Lewis of Jefferson Valley, NY and several nieces and nephews and their families.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, August 16 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 3021 Route 213, Stone Ridge, NY followed by a burial at Fairview Cemetery, Stone Ridge and luncheon to follow.
