Junell Silver
1/27/1945 – 6/23/2025
Junell Silver, Altadena resident since 2012, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family following a long illness. After raising a family in the Boston area, she received a PhD in psychology from Fielding Graduate Institute, and had a clinical psychology practice in Santa Cruz for many years, where she found a calling to serve others in need.
She loved walking around our Altadena neighborhood, petting the dogs and chatting with friends. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. She loved hosting, making those around her feel seen, appreciated, and at home in a comfortable and beautiful space.
She was fashionable and an exceptional shopper. For decades she single-handedly clothed and styled not only her husband but her daughter's whole family. She loved travel, especially Paris, and enjoyed fine dining all around the world. She loved all dogs, but golden doodles most of all.
She was politically active, engaged in her community, and deeply cared about the future of our country. Every husband's dream, she loved watching sports on TV and remained a diehard Celtics fan. She was a feminist in a post-feminist age, and particularly enjoyed watching women's sports, including her granddaughter's soccer and track competitions from an early age.
She was an engaging force to be reckoned with. She could be equal parts opinionated and empathetic. She invested in people and believed in them when they didn't believe in themselves. She helped others struggling to find their way through the world with empathy, patience, and grace. We miss her greatly.
