K. Burgess Obituary

K. Gene Burgess, 73, of Mechanicsburg, PA died Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
Gene was a 1971 graduate of Moorefield High School, Moorefield, WV. He later attended Northern Virginia College where he received an associate's degree in construction management. He was employed by the Defense Logistics Agency, New Cumberland and retired in 2017. Prior to that, he was involved in private construction of various projects including schools and office buildings. He was a volunteer for LEEK Hunting and Mountain Preserve. Gene was a handyman and "Jack of All Trades." He was a loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Vivian of 52 years and the best Dad and Pap- Pap. He was the definition of a true family man.
Gene was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved teaching his grandson's new things and giving them the foundation to help them succeed in life. His grandchildren meant everything to him.
Gene was born on March 20,1951 in Cumberland, MD to the late Alva A. and Pearlie J. (Nelson) Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Scott Burgess; and brothers, Ivan and Eston.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Smith) Burgess; daughter, Jenny Elizabeth Pierce (Donnie) of Carlisle; grandchildren, Remi Lorraine Pierce of Newville, Brody Scott Burgess and Dylan Scott Pierce of Carlisle; siblings, Juanita Scott of Brandywine, WV, Wilda Libby (Larry) of Anchorage, AK, Leon Burgess of Milam, WV, Carl Burgess (Linda) of Moorefield, WV, Alva Burgess, Jr. (Lisa) of Norwich, CT; aunt, Thelma Landis of Seneca Rocks, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, January 29th from 10:00 AM till time of Funeral Service at 11 AM with the Rev. Harold G. Cullers officiating. Burial will follow at Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV.
