Karen Sue Byrd Dunbar, 67, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025. She was a devoted employee for over 40 years at Kroger, working primarily at the Hyde Park and Harrison locations. Karen loved all of her coworkers and customers as if they were her family, continuing relationships with them even after her retirement. As an avid animal lover, she rescued many of her own, which brought her tremendous joy. Neighbors could often find her outside, feeding the birds, deer, and any other wildlife that made its way to her. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Donald Isom and Sonia Marcum Byrd.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Kurt (Sharon) Byrd; sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly (Mark) Bemmes; uncle, Oda Marcum; nieces and their spouses, Kayla (Eli) Mullins, Kelly (Alex) Himmler, and Kristy (CJ Leary) Bemmes; great nieces, Amelia and Rori; great nephew, Barrett; confidant and companion, Kenny Gaynor; special friends, Linda Guilfoyle and Jessica Noeth; and many other extended family members and friends.
Karen's radiant smile, love for her family and friends, and contagious laugh will be missed by anyone who was ever graced with the opportunity to know and love her.
The family will receive friends from 9 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Neidhard-Minges Funeral Home, 10385 New Haven Rd, Harrison, OH 45030. Burial will follow in Williamsburg Cemetery in Clermont County.
Flowers are appreciated, however Karen would have preferred donations be made to an animal rescue or veteran's charity of your choice.

I worked with Karen for over 35 years at the Hyde Park Kroger.

Karen was the one person who everyday made a difference in someone´s life working with her was an out right pleasure she brought a different level of atmosphere into the store.

The Hyde Park Kroger store was a fast paced high volume store and the lines were long at the office and at checkout Karen´s laughter and her welcoming smile her kindness was genuine and everybody knew it.

I could write a book about all the kind and good things she did everyday and with Karen it was just natural.

I have seen Karen pay for customers purchase, Karen has given workers and customers a ride home, Karen would drop off groceries to some older customers, a few times she would intervene in situations that happened in the store and asked me if I would reconsider the way we usually handle these situations and if Karen came up stairs and talk on your behalf I knew there was circumstances that she knew about a person and she felt strongly about. I was one of the unlucky customers that banked with Home State Savings Bank all of my money was lost when they became insolvent, Karen went down to the Kemba Credit Union and borrowed $300.00 and gave me the money and told me use it for my daughter´s her kindness actually made a change in the way I would live my life and I became a better man because of her kindness.

When I managed to cross the finish and retire I went to see her at the Harrison store and we had a few beers and talked about old times and the future and how many people we have lost on our journey.

When we were younger we not only worked together as a group, we would go out as a group.

Karen was always so energized and vibrant and I will always remember her that way and she was very proud of her family and their service to the community.
