Katherine Ann Brooks, 92, of Pilot Point, TX, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025 in Frisco, TX. Katherine was born February 24, 1933 in Pilot Point, TX to Anton "Cotton" Herman Meinen and Dora Alice Phipps. Katherine married Gerald Wayne Brooks in Pilot Point on July 24, 1949. Katherine was born at home on the family farm in the Mustang Community, southeast of Pilot Point, where her roots ran deep. She was part of the last class to attend Mustang Community School in the 1940-41 school year before it closed, and the students were moved to Pilot Point schools. She was an avid golfer and tennis player for many years. Katherine really enjoyed winning just about any card or domino game you can name. She was a gifted and talented artist, crafter, stained glass maker, painter, scrapbooker, and quilter. Katherine most enjoyed quilting and was a master quilter who earned the title of Grand Champion at the 1992 Texas State Fair, a testament to her skill and dedication to her craft. Katherine was an active member of the 19th Century Club of Pilot Point and devoted many years to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, leading numerous children to trusting Christ as their Lord and Savior. Her love story with Gerald was one for the ages. They celebrated an incredible milestone-72 years of marriage. Their bond was unshakable, and together they traveled the world, making countless memories and fantastic stories along the way. After marrying Gerald and moving to Denton, TX, she worked several years as a salesperson at Russell's Department Store on the Denton Square before transitioning to a dental hygienist position with a dentist also located on the Square. She made it a priority to be present in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From competitions to shows, awards to birthdays, she tried never to miss an event. As a former Pilot Point Ladycat, she was a lifelong cheerleader for her community's athletes, always ready to cheer them on no matter the sport. Her journey took her from Texas to Stevens Point, WI, twice, and then to Atlanta, GA, with Gerald's employer, Sentry Insurance. Through all the moves, she remained the calm and loving force that held her family together. But no matter where life took her, she was happiest when she was back in her beloved Pilot Point. Katherine is survived by her son, Bryan Brooks and wife June of Pilot Point, TX; two daughters, Rebecca Walker and husband Ben of Frisco, TX and Deborah Moss and husband Steve of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, Charles Burton Massey and wife Kasey, Ellen Katherine Carlson and husband Ken, Cheyenne Preputnik and husband Aaron of Ponder, TX, and Sierra Hudson and husband Cole of Aubrey, TX; eight great-grandchildren, Alexander Massey, Isabella Massey, Gabriel Carlson, Theodore Carlson, Faith Preputnik, Chloe Preputnik, Caden Hudson, and Brooks Hudson; and sister, Betty Sue Martin of Pilot Point, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cotton and Dora; husband, Gerald; grandson, Patrick Gerald Walker; two brothers, Louie and Ray Meinen; and two sisters, Mary Ruth Landtrip and Laverne Johnson. Visitation will be held 10:00AM-11:00AM, Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point, TX. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM with Jason Sidler officiating. Interment will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery in Pilot Point, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations in Katherine's memory may be made to the Pilot Point Educational Foundation, specify the Gerald and Katherine Brooks Scholarship, P.O. Box 1289, Pilot Point, TX 76258. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
