Kathryn (Cashy) Bartels Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2025.
Kathryn (Cashy) Eleanor Bartels peacefully passed away Friday October 10, 2025 surrounded by her family. Cashy was preceded in death by her father John Fisch, mother Mary Fisch, husband George Bartels and grand daughter-in-law Kathleen (Gregory) Bartels.

Surviving Cashy is her partner Chuck Jungwirth, son Brian Bartels and his wife Valerie Bartels, daughter Merry Dawn Bartels, grandsons Gregory Bartels, Jarod (Autumn) Bartels, and Robert Bartels (Anna Zedar). Cashy is also survived by six great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.

Cashy lived the majority of her life in Westville Indiana with her husband George. Her work was primarily in the public sector with remarkable achievements including being a founding member of the Zeta Omicron chapter of Tri-Kappa, the first woman to be elected President of the Westville Town Board serving two terms, and sixteen years as the Township Assessor, Township Trustee and Westville Schools Administrator.

"A life well lived," Mom traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She retired and moved to Ft Myers, Florida in 2004, where she met Chuck. Together, they shared a new beginning and continued a life of happiness and abundance, continuing her wacky escapades.

Mom's interests included growing plants and flowers, arts & crafts painting projects, and tastefully decorating the home she shared with Chuck. She loved all of the artwork that her great grandchildren created as it is proudly displayed around her home. She let them get away with things she didn't let her own grandchildren get away with. They brought immeasurable joy to Mom, and I am so thankful she was able to be part of their lives and watch them grow.

The first Celebration of Life is to be held on November 15, 2025 at the United Methodist Church, Westville, IN. Service will begin promptly at 1pm (CT) in the sanctuary followed by celebration and fellowship in the adjoining Family Life Center.

A second Celebration of Life is to be held on February 15, 2026 at Bell Tower Park Clubhouse, Ft Myers, FL at 1-4pm (ET). Guests are to enter at 5100 Bell Tower Park Boulevard from South Tamiami Trail (US-41) north bound lane, right hand turn (just past Bonefish Grill). I am with You forever, dear Cashy. Being your classmate for twelve years and keeping in touch with you your whole life has been a very fine experience. Hope to see you again before long, up in Heaven.

Your ole classmate and friend, Johnny Cass

Cashy was my dear classmate in Westville for twelve years. I was a basketball player in high school and Cashy was a cheerleader all four years. I move way out west later on, and Cashy to Florida. But we stayed in touch. She is one of the very finest people I have ever known.

So very sorry to read this. Cashy was an extremely special person and will be missed. In 1982, she hired me as a teacher. Regardless, of how negotiations were going for that particular year, the teachers knew that she would always respected them as people and as educators. Cashy would always put the students first and worked very hard to help provide opportunities for them. Her laughter would absolutely light up a room.
Thank you for allowing me to grow as a teacher and as a person.
My thoughts and prayers to the family.
