Kathy Nastri Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathy Lorraine Nastri announce her passing after a three-and-a-half-year courageous battle with non-small cell cancer at the age of 70 on Monday, July 7, 2025. She passed peacefully at home where she was cared for by her husband, the love of her life, along with the assistance of the wonderful staff of Cranberry Hospice.
Kathy was born on March 24, 1955, in Somerville, MA to Richard and Mildred Johnston. She is survived by her husband Richard, son Michael and his wife Megan and their children Aidan and Jacob, son Mathew and his wife Jenna and their children Gia and Luca, daughter Alyssa and her husband Matthew. She also leaves her siblings Richard, Robert, Donna and her husband Frank, Larry and his wife Anita. She also leaves her faithful companion Sadie, her beloved cockapoo.
Kathy grew up in Somerville and attended St. Clement High School. From there she attended UMass Boston and Lesley College and earned a bachelor's degree in special education. She had a successful and fulfilling career with the Dennis-Yarmouth School System where she developed a love of teaching reading to special needs students. She was instrumental in implementing the "Reading Recovery" program, and she took great pride in helping each of her students to learn to read. She began her master's degree while pregnant with her third child Alyssa. She was highly regarded by her peers for her leadership and expertise in an ever-evolving field.
Kathy loved to work in her perennial garden and living on Cape Cod. She adored traveling with her husband. Together they visited Alaska, Italy, Bermuda, Aruba, Ireland, Prague, and enjoyed many trips to her favorite place - York, Maine.
She will be deeply, constantly missed by her husband Rick who was lucky enough to spend 54 years with her: 5 dating and 49 married. She was the most thoughtful and kindhearted person you could ever meet. She had an incredible sense of humor and was elated whenever spending time with her children and grandchildren or simply sitting on a beach and looking at the ocean.
She was an incredibly dedicated and loving wife and mother. She welcomed each day with positivity, which was contagious to everyone around her. She will be so missed, but her example of how to care for and love for all of those around her, and the countless wonderful memories she created will give friends and family the strength to carry her spirit and hold it close to them forever.
A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:00AM, at Sts. Martha & Mary Church, 354 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. Following the mass, family and friends are invited back to Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347 for a Memorial Gathering starting at 11:30AM where family and friends can share memories and stories of Kathy and how she impacted their lives.

July 11, 2025

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Rick and their children, and all of the Johnston family on the passing of their beloved wife/mother /sister Kathy. I had the pleasure of knowing Kathy at St. Clements as a classmate and fellow cheerleader. We also worked together for many years at Johnnies Foodmaster. In all of the years I knew her, she was a kind, warm, smart, and compassionate person. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone and always had a smile and warm greeting for everyone she met. I know she will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time
