Kathy Renee Nelon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 5, 2025, at the Mission Campus, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on December 29, 1959, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, Kathy filled the lives of those around her with joy and warmth.
She was a devoted and loving wife to Danny Nelon, sharing 47 wonderful years of marriage. Kathy took immense pride in her role as a mother to Amanda Johnson and her husband Randy, and Matthew Nelon and his wife Jessica. Her heart blossomed further with the addition of her grandchildren: Damon Martin, Kaden Nelon, Brandon Nelon, Lacey Nelon, and Bryson Johnson, who were the light of her life. She also shared a close bond with her sister Melissa Nelon and her husband Paul, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy was known for her artistic flair, loving to crochet baby blankets and prayer shawls, expressions of her creativity that she generously shared with family and friends. Beyond her crafts, she found great joy in cooking and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for her family to gather. Spending time with her loved ones especially her grandchildren was her greatest pleasure.
A former member of the Cross Mill Pentecostal Holiness Church, Kathy's faith played a significant role in her life. Her devout spirit and compassion extended not just to her family, but to her wider community, touching many lives with her gentle and caring nature.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Wanda Trull Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion, NC. A funeral service celebrating Kathy’s life will take place on Monday August 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with Reverends Doug Beane-Hall and Paul Nelon officiating. Interment will follow at the Full Gospel Revival Church Cemetery in Rutherfordton.
Kathy Renee Nelon will be dearly missed but remembered with fondness and love by all whose lives she touched.
