Kenneth Whitehurst Obituary

Kenneth Laval Whitehurst was born on February 17, 1956 in Greenville, NC. He was sent to his eternal home on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Transition Lifecare Center, Raleigh, NC.
Kent, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and his faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
After graduating from J. H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC, Kent moved to Raleigh, NC and started his journey as a painter. There he met his wife Sheila Spencer Whitehurst. They eventually started a life together and were soulmates, married for forty-nine years. Kent loved to fish and hunt during those seasons; he faithfully watched Andy Griffith and old westerns repeatedly. He could tell you about every western that had been on T.V. Those who knew Kent will remember him for his unwavering commitment to spread love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Kent was preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Savail Whitehurst and Mary Hemby Whitehurst, a host of aunts and uncles.
Kent is survived by his wife, Sheila Spencer Whitehurst; two daughters, Stacy Dadzie (Emmanuel), Hillary Moye; four grandchildren, Kalil, Keion, Kennedi and Beaulaymone III; five great-grandchildren, Zakiyah, Kingston, Matteo, Giovanna and Kehlani; his brother, Harold Whitehurst (Van); nephews, Harold Whitehurst, Jr, Sean Spencer; nieces, Shondona Whitehurst, Shannon Pooh (as Kent affectionally called her) Spencer; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Although Kent's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. As you continue to worship Jesus up there, dear Kent your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
