Lana Gemaehlich Obituary
Lana Mary Gemaehlich, 85, a resident of Madras, passed away Sunday morning, May 25, 2025, in Bend, Oregon.
Lana was born September 15, 1939, at Havre, Montana to William Paul Young, Sr., and Bernice Elizabeth House. Her siblings were William Paul Young, Jr., Robert Maitland Young, Alice Ruth Young Bessey, Brian Joseph Young, and Paula Anastacia Young Wiltse. All but Alice Ruth preceded her in death.
Her family moved to the Rogue Valley during the early years of WWII. Lana attended various schools in the valley. She was attending Talent High School in 1955 when she met her future husband, Robert Lee "Bob" Gemaehlich. Lana and Bob were married six months later in Reno, Nevada on August 20, 1955.
Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956. For the next four years Lana was a military wife. They were stationed in Illinois, Texas, and Kansas and her first three babies were born in those states. Lana and Bob returned to the Rogue Valley in 1960, purchased land and raised their children in Jacksonville, Oregon.
Lana was a devoted mother and faithful wife. She immersed herself in the love and care of her family - always encouraging, supporting, and providing what she thought was best for their growth and well-being.
Throughout her life, Lana had an unwavering faith in God. She instilled this faith in her children by teaching them to pray and by creating opportunities for their spiritual growth.
Once her children reached their high school years, Lana began to explore activities that were of particular interest to her. About 1976-1977, she joined the Pear Blossom Chapter of Sweet Adelines located in Medford. She loved gathering with these women, not only for the joy of singing, but also for the bond of friendship.
Lana also expressed herself artistically through painting, growing beautiful flowers in her garden, and cooking. She enjoyed taking painting classes where she learned how to work with oils and watercolors.
Cooking was a huge part of her life and a way that she expressed her love to her family. She had a large collection of cookbooks which she would spend hours reading through as she planned meals. If you were traveling to her house, no matter what time you arrived, she would always have a warm, homecooked meal ready for you.
In addition to her parents and four siblings, Lana was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Lee Gemaehlich.
Lana is survived by her four children: Sam Gemaehlich (Debbie), Shepherd, Montana, Bill Gemaehlich (Nancy), Celina, Texas, Victoria Gemaehlich, Redmond, Oregon and Vonnie Gemaehlich-Murray, Scio, Oregon; eight grandchildren: Amy, Tom, Billy, Mark, Scotty, Liza, Robert, and Nicole; fifteen great-grandchildren: Shelby, Abby, McKenna, Kayleb, Ezekiel, Quinten, Llewyn, Charlee, Arrow, Aurilla, Eden, Colt, Rolland, Elsie, and Emiline; one great great grandchild: Mason; her sister Ruthey Bessey, Rogue River, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Honorary Pallbearers: Tom Gemaehlich, Billy Gemaehlich, Mark Hueners, Scotty Hueners, and Robert M. Gemaehlich.
Lana's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 14, 10:00 a.m. at the Jacksonville Cemetery followed by a reception at the Hummingbird Estate, 1677 Old Stage Road, Central Point, Oregon.
