Lanette Bird Obituary

Lanette Bird, 80, of Bowling Green Missouri passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025 at Country View Nursing Home in Bowling Green. She was born July 1, 1944 at the family home in rural Bowling Green to Lennie V. and Iantha (Hasty) Shinn. Lanette was the fifth of thirteen children.
Lanette attended Vine Hill school and graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1962. She met her future husband, Robert D. Bird, Sr. at a young age as they grew up in the same rural neighborhood. They were united in holy matrimony in April 1964 and blessed with two children, Robert D. Bird, Jr. and Susan M. (Bird) Oberman.
Lanette held many jobs during her life, most recently at the after school program through the YMCA. She had many interests including horseback riding, kayaking, playing cards, crossword puzzles, traveling and line dancing with Robert. Her favorite activity was bike riding, sometimes riding up to 30 miles per day. Her favorite place to ride was the Katy Trail. She completed all but 36 miles of the 240 mile trail and was still riding regularly until approximately two years ago.
Family was very important to Lanette. She enjoyed spending time visiting with her siblings as well as her many nieces and nephews at family gatherings. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to babysit and rarely missed a school event or sporting activity. She was their biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader. She was very proud of each of them.
Surviving are her children: Robert (Terri) Bird, Jr. of Middletown; Susan Oberman of New Hartford; four grandchildren: Michelle (Michael) Mehler, Russell Bird, Raymond (Kacy Mudd) Bird, William (Stephanie) Oberman and five great-grandchildren; Jaxson Oberman, Jayson Oberman, McKenzie Mehler, Addison Bird and Ryland Bird. Also surviving are siblings Elmer "Bud" (Carol) Shinn, Lois Richards, Carl "Tick" (Nancy) Shinn, Neta (Harry Cleve) Elder, Roger (Stephanie) Shinn, brother-in-law Joe (Lorraine) Brown and two sister's-in-law; Barb Shinn and Karen Shinn and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert D. Bird, Sr., son-in-law Ronnie Oberman, siblings Mary "Little" Butler, Myrt Reid, Ella Brown, Doris "Dottie" Harrelson, Jack Shinn, Lennie Dale Shinn and Wayne Shinn as well as in-law's Bryce Butler, Marion Richards, Morris Reid, James Harrelson.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, February 8th at The Lodge in Louisville, MO (30 Louisville Road, Bowling Green, MO). The family will receive condolences from 11:00am-2:00pm. Please join us at any time to celebrate Lanette and a life well lived; there will be no formal funeral service, per Lanette's wishes.
