Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bernhardt Funeral Home - Ellijay on Feb. 3, 2026.
Larry Joe Bennett, 76, of
Ellijay, Georgia, whose faith became sight on January 23, 2026, is present with his Lord and Savior following a stroke.
He was born on November 2, 1949 in
Marietta, Georgia to his late parents, Thomas Oscar Bennett and Elizabeth Rosa Cruce Bennett. Larry proudly served his country in the 116 Comm Flight, Georgia Air National Guard for seven years.
Larry and his bride, Brenda Jones Bennett, married 57 years ago on Thanksgiving Day. His infectious smile and strong faith drew her to him. They loved life together, whether through mission trips or fun times on their recumbent trikes. Family was everything to him, especially times spent with grandchildren going to sporting events, teaching them his hobbies or sharing his spiritual wisdom with them. Larry had a great love for music and could always be heard singing or listening to music. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking to people, whether it was a restaurant server or someone in a checkout line. He enjoyed making people smile or laugh.
He is a graduate of Osborne High School. He attended Lynchburg Baptist College, Luther Rice Seminary and Newburgh Theological Seminary. Larry was a pastor early on in his ministry and had a counseling/conference ministry sharing the Exchanged Life message at home and abroad. He was known as an out-of-the-box thinker. His love for missions was his heartbeat, wanting the world to know Jesus. He was blessed to serve in Ecuador, China, Haiti, Hungary, India, Iraq, Myanmar, Peru, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Turkey and Uganda.
In addition to his loving wife, left behind to cherish his memory are daughters, Candace Bennett, Leslie (Hans) Hauser, and son, Haddon (Rebecca) Bennett; grandchildren, Parker Bennett, Samantha Bennett, Cole Hauser and Sydney Hauser; siblings, Jerry (Sarah) Bennett, Kenneth (Tracy) Bennett and Shirley (Barry) Draper; along with nieces, nephews and extended family.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love-one that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Life for Larry Bennett will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., Eastwood Baptist Church, 1150 Allgood Rd. in Marietta. Ministry friends, Phil Disney and Mike Bowers, will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time for the service to begin.
