Larry Daniel Cochran, a longtime resident of Huron and Richland Counties, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, July 6, 2025, at Marietta General Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Viola (Allen) Cochran, and nine siblings. He is survived by his brother, David Cochran; his children, Carolyn Cochran and Alex (Misty) Cochran; grandchildren Harmony and Zoey Rice; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Larry was a godly man who answered his country's call during the Vietnam conflict, serving proudly in the United States Navy aboard the USS Forrestal. In 1967, during the worst fire in U.S. naval history, Larry earned a Meritorious Service Commendation for his heroic, life-saving efforts carrying fellow servicemen to safety. Where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal for his brave service.
Larry was a kind, loving, funny, and stubborn man who loved fishing, family, flirting with waitresses, and watching old Westerns. He worked hard his entire life and never asked for anything but the love of his friends and family. A longtime truck driver, Larry had a passion for travel that took him all over the country and the world.
He was truly one of the kindest souls and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private graveside service with military honors will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio. If anyone would like to attend, please contact Secor Funeral Home, who will forward your information to Carolyn Cochran for direct communication regarding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Carolyn to assist with related expenses.
