Larry Friend Obituary

Larry E. Friend, 81, of Ridgeville, IN, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025, peacefully while in the company of family members at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. Larry was born in Portland, IN, on June 28, 1943, a son of the late Margaret G. (Valentine) and Bernard Friend. He was a 1961 graduate of Ridgeville High School, proudly served in the United States Army and was the owner and operator of Friends Firearms and Upholstery. Larry was the loving husband of Flora E. (Smart) Friend who he happily married on July 29, 1995. He was a member of the Ridgeville American Legion, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, camping, flea markets, gun shows, country western music and books, working with his hands, and loved animals. Larry will forever be remembered for his happy go lucky personality, good hearted and social charm with his customers, and being ornery to the very end. He is survived by his wife Flora Friend, son Chris Friend, daughter Tammy Clemons, step daughter Kamala Waters, 2 step sons Phil Smart and Eli Talbert, 5 grandchildren; Erin Friend, Kerstin Brown (Morgan Rees), Madison Clemons, Megan Luster (Stetson), Abigail Clemons, 7 step grandchildren; Robert Smart, Jessica Vore, Aaron Vore, Logan May, Damon Smart, Bailey Talbert, Bentley Talbert, 5 great grandchildren; Marley Monroe, Finley Friend, Dakota Lombaroda, Kensley Clemons, Adeline Luster and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Margaret Friend, 1 brother Bernard L. Friend, 1 great grandchild Oakley Clemons and 1 step grandchild Quinton Smart. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 2-5 PM at MJS Mortuaries - Ridgeville Chapel. A celebration of life service will follow at 5 PM with Pastor Wes Lynch officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to MJS Mortuaries - Ridgeville Chapel.
