Larry K. Primas, 84, of Maryville, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by family.
Born on March 30, 1941, in Alton, IL, he was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Kathryn E. (nee Cragg) Primas. Larry was a 1959 graduate of Edwardsville High School and dedicated over 35 years of his career to Boeing, working in tool and die, retiring in May of 1998. He had a lifelong passion for woodworking and race cars and was a longtime official at Godfrey Speedway. A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, he also cheered for the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs. He also was a Ford automobile fan, and loved hunting, being outdoors, and cutting wood. Above all, Larry cherished time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lonny R. Primas; an infant son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Amanda "Amy" Primas; sister-in-law, Blanche Rouse; special cousin, Tom Primas; nephews, Randy Onkle and Lanny Schwendemann; great-nephew, Little Jim Onkle; and great-niece, Michelle "Shelly" Onkle.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Janice (nee Thompson) Primas, whom he married on August 8, 1971, at St. John's Church in Granite City. He was a loving father to Scott (Lisa) Primas, Dawn "Ted" (Ron) Martin, Stephen (Denna) Primas, and Cherlynne Primas; proud grandfather to Veronica Crippen, Leigha Coolbaugh, Taryn (Allen) Pate, and McKenzie "ZZ" Martin; and great-grandfather to Madelyn Crippen, Briley Crippen, Henry Crippen, Dylan Kell, Nolen Pate, Cole Pate, and Laynee Pate. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn (Gary) Frueh, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
